Explanation about EEG machine to know information about brain?

An instrument called electro encephalograph can record electrical activity of brain. The activity of brain is recorded as electrical potentials such a record is called Electro Encephalogram. By placing two electrodes on the scalp and leading via suitable amplifier to ink writing device, record of four different types of waves is obtained. These waves are named as alpha, beta, delta and theta and vary in frequency. These waves give the characteristic activity of brain which is very useful for clinical purposes.

How EEG machine used by technician?

1. You will be asked to relax in a reclining chair or lie on a bed.

2. Between 16 and 25 electrodes will be attached to your scalp with a special paste, or a cap containing the electrodes will be used.

3. You will be asked to close your eyes,and relax.

4. Once the recording begins, you will need to remain rest and not open your eyes. Your healthcare provider may monitor you through a window in an adjoining room to observe any movements that can cause an inaccurate reading, such as swallowing or blinking. The recording may be stopped periodically to let you rest or reposition yourself.

5. After your healthcare provider does the initial recording while you are at rest, he or she may test you.it take time 20 to 40 minutes.

The muscle fibres of heart are specialized at certain parts generate tiny electrical currents which cause the normal heart heats. The "electrocardiograph" (E.C.G.) is the device to record these electrical changes. Electrocardiogram is a record of electrical behaviour of heart and remains constant in a normal man. Doctors use the E.C.G. for detection of various heart diseases. Sometimes the sinoatrial node (SA node or pacemaker) gets damaged and fails to generate cardiac impulses at normal rate it becomes abnormally slow and irregular and ventricles fail to pump the required amount of blood. It can be corrected by the surgical grafting of an artificial pacemaker instrument in the chest of the patient. This instrument stimulates the heart electrically at regular intervals to maintain the beats.

Steps for the correct placement of electrodes:

2. Find and mark the placements for the electrodes:

3. First, identify V1 and V2.

4. Next, find and mark V3 V6.

5. Apply electrodes to the chest at V1 - V6.

6. Connect wires from V1 to V6 to the recording device.

7. Apply limb leads and For this test you wear a small, portable ECG machine for 24 or 48 hours and during this time your heart rate and rhythm are recorded.
